International interest
24/07/03 - Groups from Great Britain, France and Switzerland have come to Bilbao to visit the installations of the Tram Service.
EuskoTran is still generating levels of interest in the rest of the world. Over the last weeks, we have received visits from several groups interested in implementing modern tram systems. They have assessed its integration in the city environment of Bilbao and, have even shown interest in transferring this experience to their own cities; such is the case of Liverpool.
The main object of the visit by the English delegation, which included 18 people, was to analyse and apply some of the initiatives performed in Bilbao in the Liverpool Restoration Plan. As is the case with the capital of Biscay, Liverpool is trying to restore the city in the aftermath of its industrial splendour.
The implementation of a modern Tram in Bilbao was one of the aspects that generated a greater level of interest among the representatives of Liverpool, a city that, at the moment, has a small line that is obsolete. They are studying the implementation of a larger, modern system, which would cater for the traffic requirements of that great city.
SAINT ETTIENNE AND BASLE
But EuskoTran does not only attract cities that are trying to implement a modern tram service, but also those that already have solid projects and even lines that are in operation. In this group, we can include the visit from a delegation from the French city of Saint-Etienne, one of the three cities in that country that have never exiled trams from their streets. The intention of the Saint-Etienne tram service is to build a new line that, as is the case in Bilbao, will have a metric gauge.
We must also mention the visit of several members of the prestigious Basle Tramclub (Switzerland), which confirms the level of interest the EuskoTran has attracted in the whole world.
