The Basque Government, The Bilbao City Council and “Bilbao-Ría 2000, S.A.” company take part in the project of the Tram of Bilbao.
On September 24th 1998 the three institutions signed the Collaboration Agreement to implement the Line A of the Tram, and a Monitoring and Coordination Committee was created to check the actions.
This way, Basurto and the new station of San Mamés will be connected to Abandoibarra. It will facilitate the access to Deusto, University, Mazarredo-Uribitarte, and will offer a quality service to the new area of Abandoibarra and to the trade-historical Mercado de la Ribera, Casco Viejo and Atxuri.
In short, the Project of the Tram for Bilbao is part of a global approach to the organization and improvement of the public transport.
